Russian Threes and Fours

(The Study of Threes)

This present foray is suppositional. For example, let us suppose that despite many Russians excluding themselves from a specifically denoted religious orientation (regardless of reason), there are several different individualized responses which may be developed:


  • Some form of complementary intellectualism is developed
  • Some form of complimentary intellectualism is developed
  • Some form of oppositional intellectualism is developed

All totaled, there nonetheless remains a widespread culture of religious influence. A primary influence of this pervasive religious culture is the Christian based trinitarian concept from which a wide-spread usage of three-patterned concepts have been developed. This might then explain a wide-spread usage of at least some pattern-of-three concepts in the Russian culture as it does other cultures.


A "complementary" form of intellectualism may or may not alternatively describe one or more points of ascendency in terms of superiority. A "complimentary" form of intellectualism is a pronouncement of support and equanimity. An "oppositional" form of intellectualism frequently seeks to portray the impression of superiority.


By usage of a simple quantitative comparison, a Quaternion structure supplants that of a tertiary or "three" structure such as that expressed in a Trinitarian formula. Yet, the Christian Trinity structure, regardless of how you might care to formulize the meaning of each aspect, is but one minor example of a pattern-of-three. If you stay focused on this example as a primary idea, you can't possibly go beyond it. If you remain immersed in a culture with an atmosphere suffused with obscured religious dogma aligned with the notion of a trinitarian concept, your entire intellectual life may be based on impulsive reactions there to. You will characteristically continue to confuse content with context and the basic structure of pattern that is obligingly contoured accordingly.


It is necessary, for the purpose of objectivity, to get away from a dominant attachment to content and look at the simple underlying pattern(s). While the content may be used in one or more contexts, one should also practice an analytical model which permits them to use content as a means of re-focusing on the underlying pattern which may, in some cases, in terms of the present content being discussed, be neither a three or a four. If we say that a "four" or "Quaternion" is superior to a "three" or "Trinity, Triad, Triple", etc., then we must explain why there are numerous religious and non-religious examples of the "three". It is rather silly to think that by sing the label "Quaternion" we add importance or sophistication to our view-point. Likewise, usage of the label "Trinity" adds nothing to the basic three- patterned structure.


Voice inflection and context may make someone feel emotionally satisfied, but this doesn't change the underlying structure. Comparatively speaking, the ability of a woman or man to "make" a baby is not necessarily changed by language, culture, dress, height, weight, race, or books they may or may not read. While such things may influence a man or woman not to be motivated to have a baby, such things don't typically create an inability. For many, content placed into a particular context provides them with a degree of sociability. Like a person with a military career interested in getting themselves known not only amongst their peers, but into some military encyclopedia. They long for, and may even contribute to social conditions from which arise circumstances that develop military situations whereby their chances of making a name for themselves are greatly improved... regardless of how much destruction ensues or lives are lost. The underlying pattern of the military/political ego is obscured by context and content.


As a researcher, one must be cognizant of their colleagues' interest and usage of the same material. The emotions of a researcher can well be expressed in the content and context of the material. This is not to say a person can't be excited about their research, but research used as an alternative tool of expressed emotion should be denoted as such.
