For the most part (with the exception of my own included three cents worth), the following quotes came from:

brainyquote.com link (3K)

I don't know if the person ascribed to each and every quote actually gave the quote or if they are the figment of someone's imagination meant as a compliment or disparagement. I can't say whether or not the quote is original or a derivative of some longer conversation, or if it is an echo of someone else's comment such as in the case of an actor merely parroting some writer's monologue or that a character out of a book is being quoted without any credit being given to the actual author. In short, I don't know if the quote is accurate or actual. In some instances I have placed variations of the same quote of the same person as they were found in the Brainyquote lists. And, granted, there are hundreds, if not thousands of other examples that could be provided. Some readers may notice that representative quotes by those of a given subject area (for example, law, physics, biology, theology, etc.,) are under or over-represented, and that other examples would be more profitable in terms of expressed wisdom. Be this as it may, I simply re-created the lists as I found them, with a few minor singular word adjustments.

Notice that in days of old people were known by one name (as are some today). As we move towards the present, some are know by two names, because some people have only two names... with no middle name. While many are now known by three names (first, middle, last), these are sometimes abbreviated with single letters. There are of course exceptions, with some people sprouting more than three, not including a title of profession or nobility. Additionally, in terms of quotations involving a particular number pattern, let us not forget to consider those which involve other than a "three" and that just because the word "three" is used, does not necessarily mean that which is expressed is a "three" in every context. Discussing the number three in terms of a symbol or its historical development in terms of cognitive development are very often different issues when compared to patterns-of-three as a singular unity.

If you were to take on a task of compiling a list of quotations, there are a number of questions one might consider for the compilation. For example:

  • Would you focus on the comments of actors, actresses, fiction writers, comedians, politicians, scientists, housewives, house husbands, blue collar workers, journalists, entertainers, professors, drug dealers, sports players, talk show hosts, lesbians, incarcerated criminals, playwrites, chess players, nudists, teenagers, vegetarians, portrait gang bangers, artists, corporate executives, armed forces personnel, medical practitioners, short-order cooks, pastry chefs, photographers, English speakers, German speakers, Japanese speakers, (etc.), musicians, gamblers, whores, or...?

  • Would you list quotes about food, health, politics, science, religion, habits, or...?
  • Would you conceal or state a motive for the compilation of such a list?
  • Would it be for your definition of fun or something more serious?
  • Would you confuse a pattern-of-three comment with a sentence (or expression) that only contains a reference to a numerical value of three?
  • Would you overlook those instances of a "3 to 1" ratio such as, for example, if someone were to say they have three cats and one dog? (See: --- Three to One ratios ---)
  • Would you overlook other-than-three references in conjunction to a "three" or pattern-of-three expression?
  • Would you primarily list those who provide a "three" about themselves, about someone else, or a different subject?
  • Would you overlook the many religious connotations being expressed in the sense that many people make an undisclosed analogy between "Manger" and manager, "Star" and guiding star as in the star of Bethlehem, and the "Chosen One" when they are selected amongst several others.

  • Would you catalogue quotations of different people on the same subject matter in order to be better able to distinguish differences of perception and perspective?

  • Would you be stringent in your definition of what is meant by a "Three" quote or more lax... permitting even questionable examples to take part?
  • Would you have a specific criteria for cataloguing or simply permit any definition whether or not repetition is evident?
  • Would you distinguish between different types and levels of vocabulary usage?
  • And if you had to choose just three quotes, which would you choose...and why?
  • ETC.

Keanu Reeves

  • Sometimes when you make a film you can go away for three months and then come back and live your life. But this struck a much deeper chord. I don't have the ability yet to speak about it in an objective.

Jason Reitman

  • My culture comes from everywhere. I'm sick of this notion of nationality, that if you're brought up in the same city or same country you're the same. Even three kids brought up in the same family with the same genes, they are not the same. Just consider a human a human.

George Saunders

  • For me, the game would be to assume a very intelligent reader who can extrapolate a lot from a little. And that's become my definition of art; to get that pitch just right, where I can put a hint on page three, and the reader's ears go up a bit, as opposed to dropping it all on the first page.

Bon Scott

  • All the songs we do are basically about one of three things: booze, sex or rock-n-roll.

H.O.B. note: The reason for this may be that either or both singers/song writers and those listening to such have the mentality of a sociologically unlabeled-as-such wide spread class of expressed ignorance mated with music. (Music, in terms of vibration, reverberation, and resonance could play a more significant, meaningful and deeper role if we could get the idiotic public past its nonsense usage of what is labeled "music" but whose definition is as wide as any ocean.)

Like police officers, politicians and talk show hosts who are not recognized for their intellectual acumen, neither should most song writers or their audiences. The so called "common sense" of this sociological class-(ification) should rightly be seen for what it is: An undocumented simple-mindedness. For those who don't fit into this classification, they are like a sane person trying to manuever their way amongst the insane without being recognized for "being different" and thus might become labeled as weird, bizzare, or even insane!... as judged by those who truly are crazy. And with respect to this "primivity of thought", when they feel they are being attacked at the doorstep of their lair, they retaliate just like any insect or animal in the wild.

Present day "Music" is in a Dark Ages. There is a seething Black Plague debilitating the hearts, minds and souls of civilization. Whereas a cure for this Plague exists, it is afraid to come out and begin a needed Renaissance. The creativity is there. The orignality of thought is there. But all the singers, song writers and muscians throughout the world lack a Pied Piper's courage. Whereas many of them think of themselves as being the Avant Guard of this or that style, they're all simply using the same retinue of traditional tricks and conjurings cloaked with different scenery to influence and create yet another generation of puppet citizenry whose sole 3-dimensions of consciousness are limited to thinking in terms of sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll, with it many colors, flavorings and word-of-mouth descriptives which are meant to be interpreted as being different when they are actually the same.

But not only is a Renaissance needed in music, but in science, religion and politics as well. Whereas many people think we live in an age of progressive electronic technology, there are some of us, for example, who realize that the wide-spread usage of cellphones is akin to meaning little more than most kids in the "neighborhood" now have a walkie-talkie and not just the rich kids. (You would've had to have grown up poor in an era just after the advent of hand-held transistor radios in order to fully appreciate this example. Even the three to five-dollar cost of one of these radios was perceived to be an oppulence.) In other words, cellphones are little more than a re-packaging trick of an old idea sold to an unsuspecting public that has been "stupefied" into cyclical thinking by those practiced in regurgitating the same type of thinking over and over and over again, sometimes refered to as the three-pronged "hook" of popular music that repeats itself like so many mind numbing commercials, political speeches, sermons, and scientific "discoveries".
